Human Memory Benchmark

Short Memory Test

10 random digits will appear one by one, then all together. After 30 seconds, type all 10 digits in the correct order. Your score is the percentage of digits you remembered correctly.

About the Short Memory Test

The Short Memory Test measures short-term (working) memory capacity — your ability to hold and recall a sequence of digits after a brief exposure. Ten random single digits (0–9) are shown one at a time for 2.5 seconds each, then all together for 5 seconds. After that, you must enter them in the correct order. Each position is scored independently: the final result is the percentage of digits recalled in the right place.

The "magic number" in cognitive psychology is 7 ± 2 — the average number of items most people can hold in working memory at once. Recalling 10 digits in exact order is challenging; scores above 80% are excellent. Practice and mnemonic techniques such as chunking or visual association can improve performance. Enter a nickname of up to 8 alphanumeric characters to save your percentage score to the global leaderboard. Higher is better.
