About the periodic table quiz
Chemical symbols are a shared language for describing matter. Connecting each symbol with its element makes chemical formulas and scientific writing easier to understand. The atomic number identifies an element by its number of protons.
The periodic table arranges elements to reveal patterns in their properties. Dmitri Mendeleev’s table helped predict elements that were not yet known. Modern tables contain 118 named elements, from hydrogen to oganesson.
Retrieving an answer from memory complements reading a reference table. Short practice sessions reveal which names and symbols need more attention. Review missed elements and explore their properties and naming histories in the interactive table.
