Educational Kepler model, not a live sky map: fixed orbital elements, simplified moon planes and phases, no mutual perturbations. Time advances only while this tab is visible.
Textures are stylized maps, not spacecraft photographs.
The Oort Cloud is a hypothesized reservoir, represented here from 2,000 to 100,000 AU. Its edges are uncertain; dots are symbolic, not a measured density.

About the Solar System
The Solar System includes the Sun and the worlds held in its gravitational influence. The four inner planets are rocky, while the outer planets are gas and ice giants. Their moons and rings reveal many different environments.
Planetary orbits are not perfect circles, and planets travel at different speeds. Sizes and separations differ so greatly that a single picture cannot show both clearly at a true common scale. Comparing a diagram with a scale model helps reveal just how empty space is.
Beyond Neptune lie the Kuiper Belt and more distant populations of icy bodies. The proposed Oort Cloud extends far beyond the planetary region. Voyager 1 and 2 have crossed the heliopause, but that boundary is not the edge of the Sun’s gravitational domain.
