Keyboard Tester Online

Check each physical key, see its browser code, and spot a key that stays held down.

Choose a visual layout, then start the test and press keys on your physical keyboard. The selected layout changes labels only; your operating system decides which characters keys produce.

Browser and system shortcuts may be intercepted before this page sees them. A long hold is a warning, not proof of a faulty key. Virtual keyboards on phones often do not send physical key codes.

About keyboard testing

A keyboard converts physical presses into signals that the operating system interprets as keys or characters. Different layouts can produce different letters from the same physical position. Checking each key is useful after cleaning a keyboard or when a key seems unresponsive.

A quick test can reveal a key that does not respond, repeats unexpectedly or appears to stay pressed. Modifier keys such as Shift, Control and Alt may behave differently in combinations. Some shortcuts are handled by the browser or operating system and cannot be reliably tested on a web page.

For best results, test with a physical keyboard and release each key before trying another. Laptop keyboards may omit keys shown on a full-size layout, and mobile on-screen keyboards often behave differently. If a key remains unreliable across applications, check the device settings or consider professional service.
